Actor Kiefer Sutherland was taken into custody in the early hours of Monday following an alleged altercation with a ride-hail driver, as per authorities. The incident occurred shortly after midnight near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Ave., just south of Hollywood Hills.
The Los Angeles Police Department stated that the 59-year-old acclaimed Canadian actor purportedly got into a ride-hail vehicle, physically assaulted the driver, and issued criminal threats towards them. Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any injuries requiring medical attention at the time, according to the police.
Sutherland was apprehended by officers on suspicion of making criminal threats and later released from jail after posting a $50,000 US bond. His initial court appearance is set for Feb. 2, according to jail records. Requests for comment from Sutherland’s representatives remain unanswered.
Renowned for his iconic portrayal of federal agent Jack Bauer on the TV series “24” and its various spinoffs, Sutherland has also appeared in notable films such as “The Lost Boys,” “Young Guns,” “Stand by Me,” and “A Few Good Men.” He hails from a family of actors, being the son of Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, and the grandson of the late Tommy Douglas, the former premier of Saskatchewan recognized for implementing universal healthcare in Canada.
