“Fire Displaces Ten in Windsor Apartment Complex”

Must read

Around ten individuals have been displaced from their residences following a fire that occurred on Saturday afternoon at a four-unit apartment complex in Windsor, N.S. Windsor Fire Department Chief Jamie Harvey reported that the fire erupted at approximately 2:30 p.m. AT at an apartment building situated on O’Brien Street, with no reported injuries.

Harvey mentioned that approximately 25 firefighters, including personnel from neighboring departments in Hantsport, Brooklyn, and Summerville, responded to the scene. While the exact cause remains unclear, Harvey indicated that foul play is not suspected, with the fire believed to have originated near an outdoor heat pump adjacent to the building.

Tenisha Hazel, a resident residing closest to the heat pump where the fire originated, was absent during the incident, while her 15-year-old stepdaughter was present. Hazel recounted that her family’s belongings suffered smoke damage or charring, except for her son’s unscathed cowboy boots. The apartment building accommodates around ten occupants, according to Hazel.

Support for the displaced residents was extended by the Red Cross and a local organization named the Posse Project, as mentioned by Harvey. Hazel disclosed that she is currently lodging at her parents’ residence.

Despite the fire being initially extinguished by 4 p.m., it rekindled around 6 p.m. but was promptly contained permanently, Harvey confirmed. The affected building has been secured with boards, and although concerns arose regarding the fire spreading to a nearby structure, it was successfully prevented.
