Israeli producer Dana Eden, renowned for her work on the award-winning series Tehran, tragically passed away in Greece, as reported by Israeli public broadcaster KAN on Monday. Eden, aged 52, was discovered deceased in an Athens hotel, with initial indications pointing towards a possible suicide, and no suspicions of foul play, according to a Greek police official who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
She was in Greece for the filming of the fourth season of the popular series, as confirmed by KAN in a statement where they praised her significant contributions to Israel’s television industry. The broadcaster expressed deep sorrow for the loss and highlighted Dana Eden’s impactful role in several acclaimed productions.
Addressing speculations, Eden’s production company, Donna and Shula Productions, emphasized on their Facebook page that rumors of a criminal or politically motivated death were baseless and requested privacy and respect for the family during this difficult time.
Israel’s Culture and Sports Minister, Miki Zohar, expressed profound sadness at the news of Dana Eden’s passing, acknowledging her as a leading figure in the Israeli television realm. Zohar praised her for showcasing Israeli narratives on a global platform with skill and courage.
The series Tehran, which premiered in 2020, narrates the story of Tamar Rabinyan, a Mossad operative on a mission to disrupt an Iranian nuclear facility. The show’s success culminated in it being awarded the best drama series at the 49th International Emmy Awards in 2021.
Dana Eden’s television career began in the 1990s in Israel, where she worked on various shows before achieving international acclaim with Tehran. In 2018, her show Saving the Wildlife received accolades for best TV magazine geared towards children and youth at the Israeli Television Academy Awards.
