The Ottawa Senators may face an extended period without their team captain as the NHL season kicks off. Brady Tkachuk sustained a cross-check from Roman Josi of the Nashville Predators, resulting in an awkward collision with the boards during the first period on Monday. Tkachuk displayed discomfort and held his right forearm, ultimately missing the final nine minutes of the game, which the Sens lost 4-1.
Head coach Travis Green revealed that the 26-year-old Tkachuk will be sidelined for over four weeks due to a right hand injury, with the possibility of needing surgery. Tkachuk, who topped the Senators in scoring last season with 29 goals, played a crucial role in the team’s return to the playoffs after a four-year absence.
Following a win against Tampa Bay in the season opener, Ottawa faced defeat against the Florida Panthers before heading back home. Their upcoming match is set for Wednesday night against the Buffalo Sabres. Meanwhile, winger Drake Batherson confirmed his return from injury to face the Sabres, having been a key contributor in goals and points for the Senators in the previous season.
