The Toronto Blue Jays are aiming to secure their first victory in the American League Championship Series (ALCS) against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday evening. After losing the initial two games on home turf over the Thanksgiving weekend, Toronto is now looking to shift the momentum in Seattle during Game 3 at just past 8 p.m. ET.
Despite the setbacks, Blue Jays manager John Schneider expressed confidence in his team’s abilities. “I’ve always believed in our chances, no matter the opponent or location,” stated Schneider, emphasizing the best-of-seven series nature.
Pitcher Jeff Hoffman, discussing the tough challenge against the Mariners, emphasized the need for strong baseball performance in the series. The games will now move to Seattle’s T-Mobile Park for the next three matches, with Game 4 scheduled for Thursday and Game 5 (if required) on Friday.
Toronto must secure at least two wins in the upcoming games to remain in contention. Mariners manager Dan Wilson acknowledged the advantage of their 2-0 lead but highlighted the importance of taking it one step at a time. The Blue Jays have the opportunity to turn the series in their favor in Seattle, having previously swept the Mariners in a three-game series in May.
In Game 3, Blue Jays’ pitcher Shane Bieber will lead the charge against Seattle, commencing just after 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Bieber, a former Cy Young awardee, brings playoff experience to the team, having previously faced the New York Yankees in the ALDS.
On the Mariners’ side, George Kirby will be taking the mound, having demonstrated impressive pitching performance in the post-season. Despite Toronto’s strong regular-season offensive statistics, the team struggled to generate runs in the initial ALCS games against Seattle.
The Blue Jays are determined to bounce back after losing the first two games, with slugger Anthony Santander returning to the lineup for Game 3. With Seattle holding a lead, Toronto faces the challenge of winning four games to advance in the series. Both teams have endured lengthy waits for ALCS appearances, with the Mariners last reaching this stage in 2001 and the Blue Jays in 2016.
