Catherine O’Hara was posthumously awarded the best female actor in a comedy series at the recent Actor Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. The renowned Canadian comedic actress passed away on January 30 at the age of 71 due to a blood clot in her lung, a condition she had kept private alongside her battle with rectal cancer.

O’Hara clinched the accolade for her portrayal of Patty Leigh, a seasoned former studio executive in the satirical Apple TV comedy series “The Studio.” She was nominated alongside other esteemed actors like Jenna Ortega for “Wednesday,” Jean Smart for “Hacks,” Kristen Wiig for “Palm Royale,” and Kathryn Hahn for her role in “The Studio.”

During the event, the audience at the Shine Auditorium erupted in cheers and rose for a standing ovation when O’Hara was announced as the winner. Seth Rogen, co-creator of “The Studio,” accepted the award on her behalf and praised O’Hara’s exceptional talent and collaborative spirit.

Rogen shared a touching anecdote about O’Hara’s dedication to her craft, highlighting her habit of sending revised scene ideas to enhance the show. He emphasized how her contributions not only elevated her character but also improved the overall quality of the production.

The ceremony also saw “The Studio” dominating the comedy categories, securing wins for best comedy series and best actor for Rogen. O’Hara’s illustrious career, spanning iconic roles in SCTV skits, hit movies like “Home Alone” and “Beetlejuice,” and her standout performance in “Schitt’s Creek” as Moira Rose, was celebrated during the event.

Before her passing, O’Hara had received two Actor Awards for her outstanding work in “Schitt’s Creek,” recognizing her as the best actress in a comedy series and part of the best ensemble in a comedy series.
