Israeli Forces Clash with Palestinians in Gaza, 3 Dead

Must read

Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip have been involved in a deadly confrontation that resulted in the deaths of three Palestinians on Monday. The incident occurred near the city of Rafah, under Israeli control, according to local health authorities. The Israeli military stated that the individuals killed were identified as “terrorists” who breached the yellow line marking areas still occupied by the army. Allegedly, they were moving toward troops in southern Gaza, posing an immediate threat before being targeted. The identities of the casualties were not immediately disclosed.

Tensions have escalated following a series of Israeli airstrikes in the region, leading to accusations from both Hamas and Israel regarding violations of the fragile ceasefire that halted a two-year conflict. Residents reported ongoing demolitions of homes in Rafah, Khan Younis, and Gaza City by Israeli forces operating in these areas.

Since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, most hostilities have subsided, allowing displaced Palestinians to return to their damaged homes. Hamas released 20 living hostages in exchange for around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees held by Israel. However, sporadic violence persists, with Palestinian health authorities reporting 239 casualties in Gaza due to Israeli strikes post-ceasefire, with a significant number occurring in retaliatory actions by Israel against an attack on its troops.

Meanwhile, the Gaza Health Ministry received 45 bodies of Palestinians from Israeli custody on Monday, increasing the total number of returned bodies to 270. Challenges in identifying the deceased persist, with the ministry citing signs of abuse and torture on the bodies and a lack of DNA testing kits hindering the process. The ministry resorts to posting photos of the remains online to aid in the identification by families.

Israel confirmed the return of three hostages’ remains from Gaza, whereas Hamas has repatriated 20 out of 28 hostage bodies previously buried in the region. The ongoing complexities of identifying bodies continue to pose obstacles, with efforts made to ensure proper recognition and respectful handling of the deceased.
