Must read

Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut Jeremy Hansen and NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch have completed a record-breaking journey of 406,771 kilometers around the moon, marking the farthest distance traveled by humans. They are set to share their mission experiences with the public during a media session at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, at 2:30 p.m. ET today, with live coverage on CBC.ca.

Since their return to Earth last Friday, the astronauts have undergone medical evaluations and debriefings, and most importantly, have reunited with their families. The warm welcomes continued as neighbors lined the streets with flags and signs to cheer on Victor Glover in League City, Texas, while Christina Koch received an emotional greeting from her dog, Sadie.

On Saturday, the astronauts were greeted by a large crowd at Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base in Houston, including NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman and various dignitaries. The event was emotional for the crew, who have trained together for years and spent 10 intense days in a capsule during the historic mission.

Reflecting on their experience, astronaut Reid Wiseman expressed the profound bond they now share, emphasizing the unique challenges and joys of space travel. Despite the emotional reunion and celebrations, the crew wasted no time getting back to work.

Jeremy Hansen recently participated in a lunar surface simulation wearing a spacesuit, as part of ongoing training efforts. Additionally, he announced the winner of the Aqualunar Challenge, which tasked Canadian companies with developing water purification solutions for the moon. The $400,000 prize was awarded to the Canadian Strategic Missions Corporation.

Looking ahead, NASA is planning to accelerate the launch schedule for future Artemis missions, with ambitions to establish a lunar base. This vision was highlighted by Hansen during a public event in Houston, where he emphasized the collective effort involved in space exploration and the vital role played by the entire team.

The successful Artemis II mission has set the stage for further advancements in space exploration, showcasing the dedication and collaboration of astronauts and scientists alike.
