U.S. President Donald Trump has officially revised his national security tariffs under Sect. 232 by signing a proclamation on Monday, as confirmed by the White House. Starting June 8, certain steel and aluminum derivative products, such as specific types of agricultural machinery and residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, will see a reduction in tariffs from 25 percent to 15 percent.
According to the proclamation, mobile industrial equipment like bulldozers and forklifts will now face a 15 percent tariff when imported from countries with trade agreements that qualify for this adjustment, the White House stated.
In addition, foreign companies can benefit from a 10 percent tariff if their capital equipment consists of a minimum of 85 percent U.S.-made steel or aluminum. However, two new categories, steel racks, and aluminum lithographic plates, will now incur a 25 percent duty.
These tariff adjustments will take effect for goods imported or released from bonded warehouses after 12:01 a.m. ET on June 8. The changes are set to remain valid until December 31, 2027, with the aim of encouraging immediate investments to enhance the country’s industrial capabilities, as outlined by the White House.
