Must read

Canadian musicians, including Justin Bieber, Tate McRae, and Drake, have secured nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards. Bieber garnered four nods for his surprise return album “Swag,” contending for best pop vocal album and album of the year. This marks his fifth pop vocal album nomination, aligning him with Justin Timberlake for most male nominations in the category. Additionally, Bieber’s track “Daisies” is in the running for best pop solo performance, while “Yukon” is up for best R&B performance.

Cirkut, a Halifax-based producer and previous Grammy recipient, leads the Canadian nominations with seven nods. Among his nominations are producer of the year, non-classical, for works on Lady Gaga’s “Mayhem” and Ed Sheeran’s “Play.” Cirkut is also nominated for record of the year for Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra” and Bruno Mars and Rosé’s “Apt,” as well as album of the year for “Mayhem” and best dance pop recording for “Abracadabra.”

Tate McRae, a pop star from Calgary, received her first Grammy nomination for best dance pop recording for her track “Just Keep Watching” from the “F1” soundtrack. The soundtrack itself is also a contender for the best compilation soundtrack for visual media.

Other notable nominees include Vancouver’s Tobias Jesso Jr., seeking the songwriter of the year title, and the Victoria metal band Spiritbox vying for best metal performance. Audio engineer Serban Ghenea, a recipient of 23 Grammys, earned six nominations, including record of the year for his work on Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild” and Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra.”

Drake, absent from the Grammy nominations since 2024, returns with a nomination for best melodic rap performance alongside PartyNextDoor for their song “Somebody Loves Me.” On the other hand, The Weeknd, despite ending his Grammy boycott, did not secure any nominations for his latest album, “Hurry Up Tomorrow.”

The full list of Canadian nominees for various categories includes Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, Tobias Jesso Jr., Cirkut, Tate McRae, Spiritbox, Kaytranada, Mariah Carey, Joni Mitchell, Tyler Childers, and Bon Iver, among others.
