LeBron James made a significant announcement, reminiscent of his past “decision” event, which turned out to be an advertising campaign. The Los Angeles Lakers icon hinted at revealing something on Tuesday, alluding to his famous 2010 declaration about joining the Miami Heat.
Originally planned for a noon Eastern release, the announcement from Hennessy, a longstanding partner of James, was made public about 90 minutes earlier. This shift was attributed to a change in James’ training schedule for the day, as stated by the brand.
In a video clip, James disclosed, “This fall, I’m going to be taking my talents to Hennessy V.S.O.P,” echoing his iconic “take my talents to South Beach” phrase from 15 years ago when he joined the Heat. Hennessy unveiled plans for a limited edition orange bottle featuring James’ name and his signature “crowning” gesture, symbolizing his “King James” nickname.
The campaign teaser, shared by James on social media, hinted at a significant decision. The video depicted James approaching a chair and sitting opposite another man, resembling the setup of his initial “decision” announcement alongside broadcaster Jim Gray.
Speculation ran rampant on social media following the teaser post, with fans pondering James’ future in the NBA as the league’s oldest active player. Amidst rising ticket prices for the Lakers’ final regular-season game in April, fueled by anticipation of a potential retirement announcement from James, it was revealed that his latest “decision” was his involvement in an advertising campaign.
Closing the ad with confidence, James simply stated, “I like my decision.”
