“Pownal Parkade in Charlottetown to Close for Maintenance”

Must read

The Pownal parkade in Charlottetown is set to close to non-permit users beginning next Monday for maintenance. The parkade, established in 1988 with 400 spaces, primarily serves monthly permit holders, businesses, and residents.

During the initial phase of upgrades, the parkade will remain accessible to monthly permit holders, as well as businesses and residents with reserved spots, limited to the lower levels. Public access will be restricted throughout this phase, expected to conclude by the end of November.

Councilor Mitchell Tweel suggests non-permit holders utilize on-street parking in the vicinity during the closure. However, this alternative may involve using parking meters during business hours, posing challenges compared to the parkade. Tweel emphasizes the necessity of the renovations, given the parkade’s age of 40 years.

Construction will halt over the winter, with full reopening anticipated during that period. Resumption of work is scheduled for April, reverting to exclusive use by monthly permit holders. The entire project is projected to wrap up by July.
