“Quebec Court Approves Ticketmaster Class-Action Lawsuit”

Must read

The Quebec Superior Court has granted permission for a class-action lawsuit against Ticketmaster, alleging the company imposed unfair service fees on ticket sales. Justice Eleni Yiannakis ruled that the plaintiffs have satisfied the requirements for a full trial and could receive compensatory refunds if successful.

The legal action, initiated by Montreal-based law firm Paquette Gadler, argues that Ticketmaster’s service fees breach Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act and the Quebec Civil Code. The lawsuit contends that Ticketmaster’s fee structure, which varies with ticket prices rather than reflecting the actual service cost, is exploitative.

Submitted in August 2024 on behalf of plaintiff Felipe Morales, the class action represents Quebec residents who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster for North American events since July 2021. Ticketmaster, a global ticket seller for concerts, sports games, and other entertainment, has not yet commented on the recent court ruling.
