Must read

Rachel Homan’s reign in Canadian women’s curling persisted on Sunday afternoon. Just shy of a year since her last defeat against a Canadian rival, Homan wrapped up a flawless performance at the PointsBet Invitational with a 6-2 win over Corryn Brown from Kamloops, B.C., at Calgary’s WinSport Event Centre.

Acknowledging Brown’s strong performance throughout the week, Homan expressed the need to bring their best game against their formidable opponents. Despite trailing 1-0, Brown missed key opportunities in the fourth and fifth ends, resulting in Homan’s advantage.

Homan’s Ottawa-based team, including Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew, and Sarah Wilkies, had not suffered a loss to a Canadian team since October 6, 2024. With 27 consecutive victories against their compatriots, Homan emphasized the team’s focus on continual improvement.

In the men’s final, Matt Dunstone from Winnipeg emerged victorious over Brad Jacobs from Calgary with a 6-4 score, claiming his first PointsBet Invitational title after previous final defeats. Looking ahead, Homan’s team remains dedicated to preparing for the upcoming Canadian Olympic trials in November.

The top eight men’s and women’s teams in Canada will vie for the chance to represent the country at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. Despite her loss, Brown commended her team’s progress and performance throughout the tournament, highlighting their improvement and resilience.
