“Trump Cancels Federal Agent Deployment to San Francisco”

Must read

President Trump and San Francisco’s Mayor have both confirmed that there will be no deployment of federal agents to San Francisco. This decision comes amidst Trump’s push for Democratic-led cities to increase efforts against crime and illegal immigration. Mayor Daniel Lurie stated that Trump called him to convey the cancellation of any plans for federal deployment. While the city will continue collaborating with federal agencies to address drug-related crimes, militarized immigration enforcement is not deemed beneficial.

In response, Trump acknowledged the city’s significance as a global technology hub and highlighted the unity of San Francisco in combating crime. He mentioned that two prominent tech executives, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, expressed optimism about the future of San Francisco. Previously, it was reported that the Trump administration intended to send over 100 federal agents to intensify immigration enforcement in the city.

Despite the decision to halt the deployment, a few U.S. Border Patrol vehicles arrived at a U.S. Coast Guard base in the Bay Area, triggering protests from hundreds of demonstrators. The protesters carried signs advocating against kidnappings and in support of protecting neighbors. Authorities dispersed the crowd using less-lethal rounds, resulting in injuries to some protesters. Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee condemned the potential federal deployment, emphasizing the city’s resistance to external interference.

Trump’s immigration policies, aiming to deport a high number of undocumented immigrants, have faced criticism from Democrats in major cities. They argue that the crackdown instills fear among law-abiding residents, separates families, and adversely impacts businesses. Trump’s focus on addressing crime in San Francisco has been ongoing, with previous statements indicating a plan to send federal agents to the city.
