The Canadian short track speed skating team secured four gold medals in Montreal on the first day of the second World Tour stop. Local favorite William Dandjinou claimed two individual victories. Dandjinou won the men’s 500 meters with a time of 41.126 seconds after Dutch competitor Jens Van’T Wout was disqualified for a false start. China’s Lui Shaoang took silver, and Sun Long claimed bronze.
Later in the day, Dandjinou added another gold in the men’s 1,500 meters. Fellow Canadian Félix Roussel initially finished second but was penalized for an infraction, promoting Steven Dubois to third place.
Courtney Sarault also shined by winning the women’s 1,000 meters, leading the race from the third lap and finishing ahead of her competitors. Sarault then contributed to Canada’s victory in the women’s 3,000-meter relay alongside Kim Boutin, Danaé Blais, and Florence Brunelle.
The Canadian Ice Maples redeemed themselves with a gold in the relay event, crossing the line first. Sarault played a crucial role in securing the win by taking the lead after the final exchange.
The event continues with live coverage of Sunday’s medal rounds on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem. The next stops on the tour will be in Poland and the Netherlands, with the world championships set to take place in Montreal in March.
