“Tragic Avalanche Claims Lives on Mount Yalung Ri”

Must read

Rescue teams in Nepal worked tirelessly to recover the bodies of seven climbers who tragically lost their lives in an avalanche on Mount Yalung Ri. The avalanche struck the base camp at an elevation of 4,900 meters, with snowstorms initially hampering rescue efforts. However, favorable weather conditions on Tuesday allowed a helicopter to transport rescuers to the site.

Following the avalanche, eight climbers sustained injuries and were airlifted to Kathmandu for medical treatment, including three French and five Nepali nationals. By Tuesday afternoon, authorities had retrieved three bodies from the snow, with ongoing efforts to locate the remaining victims.

One of the deceased climbers was reportedly Canadian, as confirmed by Global Affairs Canada. Among the survivors was Isabelle Solange Thaon, who recounted the harrowing experience of losing her husband, Christian Manfred, in the avalanche but managing to escape with another French climber, Didier Armand.

In addition to the tragic loss of the climbers, including two Nepali guides, the identities of the other four victims remained unknown. Mount Yalung Ri, a 5,600-meter peak popular among novice mountaineers, was the setting for this devastating event.

Meanwhile, Italian climbers Alessandro Caputo and Stefano Farronato, who went missing on Panbari Peak, were found deceased. The Italian Foreign Ministry confirmed their deaths after they encountered heavy snowfall at Camp 1, located at 5,000 meters.
