Hyundai Canada has announced a safety recall for certain 2024–2026 Elantra Hybrid vehicles due to a potential fire hazard. This recall affects 6,082 cars in Canada, as confirmed by Hyundai officials. Despite no reported incidents in Canada, Hyundai spokesperson Nitish Bissonauth assured that there have been no fires, injuries, or fatalities associated with this issue in the country.
In the United States, approximately 54,337 vehicles are being recalled for the same issue, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The problem stems from a malfunction in the hybrid power control unit, which may lead to overheating, as explained by Hyundai. The NHTSA warns that this could result in a “no start” situation or reduced power mode in most instances, potentially escalating to overheating and posing a fire risk.
Hyundai has stated that it will notify all impacted drivers and offer a complimentary software update to address the overheating concern.
