As the fifth seed, he remains in contention for a spot at the ATP Finals in Turin. On the other hand, Shapovalov claimed a solid 7-6 (5), 6-2 victory over Valentin Royer of France, delivering 11 aces in the process. The player from Richmond Hill, Ontario, managed to break his opponent three times and impressively won 76% of first-serve points.
In the upcoming matches, Shapovalov is set to face Joao Fonseca from Brazil, while Auger-Aliassime will take on Spain’s Jaume Munar, who caused an upset by defeating American Ben Shelton 6-3, 6-4.
