The mastermind behind the award-winning animated movie “KPop Demon Hunters” has been honored with the key to Toronto, her hometown. Maggie Kang, a Korean-Canadian filmmaker, was surprised by Mayor Olivia Chow during a panel discussion on the film’s success at Departure Festival.
Mayor Chow commended Kang for her achievements and highlighted how her journey would serve as inspiration for future generations. Kang accepted the key without speaking and later posed for photos with Mayor Chow and Cindy Gouveia, the president of Sheridan College, where Kang attended.
“KPop Demon Hunters” has broken records on Netflix as the most-watched film of all time, leading to a chart-topping soundtrack and the confirmation of a sequel. During the panel, Kang hinted at her next project, emphasizing her commitment to delivering a film that aligns with her vision and standards.
Later in the week, Kang is set to receive the cultural innovator award at the Departure Honours gala. The event will further recognize her contributions to the entertainment industry.
