“Spotify’s Disco Ball Icon Sparks Backlash”

Must read

Spotify users have expressed strong disapproval towards the temporary replacement of the app icon with a 3D disco ball to commemorate the company’s 20th anniversary. The glitzy mirrorball design sparked a wave of backlash among users, likened to the controversy of pineapple on pizza or the use of the word “moist.”

Critics described the 3D logo as unattractive and pixelated, with some suggesting that the designer should be fired. One user even contemplated uninstalling Spotify due to the change. In response, defenders of the logo criticized the critics as “haters” and lamented a shift towards minimalistic design.

Other brands’ social account managers joined in by creating their own disco ball-inspired logos to mock the situation. Addressing concerns about readability and branding issues, Spotify assured users that the change was only temporary and that the original app icon would be reinstated soon.

A Spotify spokesperson explained that the disco ball icon was part of their celebratory theme for the anniversary but reassured users that the regular icon would return once the celebration was over. The company acknowledged that not everyone appreciated the glittery design and confirmed that the temporary logo makeover would end shortly.
