Get prepared for a new wave of eliminations as the third installment of Big Brother Canada is set to return on CTV and Crave. The popular reality competition will kick off production in Montreal next spring, with casting specifics to be revealed later, as announced by Bell Media during its upfront presentations in Toronto this week.
Additionally, the network will showcase the enduring U.S. version of Big Brother starting in the summer of 2027. Inspired by George Orwell’s iconic novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, the show brings together a group of participants, known as houseguests, in a specially designed residence where they are continuously monitored through audio and video, isolated from the external world, and vie for a cash prize.
Contestants navigate interpersonal conflicts and evolving relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, striving to evade eviction from the house and elimination from the competition.
Lined up to host the Canadian return is lifestyle and entertainment journalist Andrea Bain, presently co-hosting CTV’s daytime talk show The Social and previously featured on CBC’s daytime program The Goods. Bain expressed her excitement on social media, stating, “If you’ve watched me over the years, you know how much I love reality television, big personalities, unexpected twists and unforgettable moments. So to now be part of a franchise that has delivered all of that for decades is truly a dream come true.”
Bell’s agreement encompasses the show’s previous 12 seasons, available for binge-watching on Crave, in addition to the French-language version Big Brother Célébrités.
Since its inception in the late 1990s in the Netherlands, numerous adaptations of Big Brother have aired globally, achieving success in various countries from Brazil to the U.K., India to Australia. The Canadian version premiered on Slice, a digital platform, in 2013 before transitioning to the primary network Global two years later, with Arisa Cox, a broadcaster and entertainment journalist, serving as the host.
Following a hiatus after the fifth season, a fan outcry led to the renewal of the show for a sixth season. However, disappointment ensued when Global announced its cancellation in June 2024. Justin Stockman, Bell Media’s vice-president of global content, expressed optimism, stating, “We look forward to delivering Canadian audiences more of the eventful and unforgettable competitive social gameplay they love.”
