Britney Spears was apprehended in Southern California on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, as reported by state and local authorities. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers pulled over Spears on Wednesday night for allegedly speeding and driving erratically in a black BMW. The CHP disclosed that the pop star underwent several field sobriety tests before being taken into custody for suspected driving under the influence of a mix of substances.
Following her arrest, Spears was processed at a detention center around 3 a.m. on Thursday and later released at approximately 6 a.m., as confirmed by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. The CHP mentioned that the incident remains under investigation, with pending results from chemical tests. A court appearance has been arranged for May 4.
Born in Mississippi and raised in Louisiana, Spears gained fame as a teen pop sensation who emerged as a prominent star in the 1990s and 2000s. Transitioning from Disney Channel’s The Mickey Mouse Club to MTV and beyond, she delivered iconic hits like Hit Me Baby One More Time, Oops! I Did It Again, and Toxic.
Facing personal challenges with mental health and substance abuse in the 2000s, Spears was hospitalized in 2008. Recent attention has been on the conservatorship overseen by her father, James Spears, which controlled her affairs and finances. This led to the “Free Britney” movement and a documentary shedding light on her legal battles with her father.
In a significant development in 2021, a judge terminated the conservatorship, marking a significant victory for the pop star.
