Detective Charlie Hudson is making a comeback as actor John Reardon reprises his role on the ninth season of the show “Hudson & Rex,” as announced by Citytv. Reardon, a native of Halifax, originally starred in the cop-dog procedural but was replaced by English actor Luke Roberts in the previous season.
Last year, Reardon revealed on social media that he had to step down from the show during Season 7 due to a tonsil cancer diagnosis. Although he was given the medical clearance to return, the production team opted for a different direction, sparking backlash from fans worldwide. The audience expressed their discontent through heavy social media interactions and even took out newspaper ads advocating for Reardon’s reinstatement.
In response, Reardon expressed his excitement about resuming his role as Charlie, acknowledging the global support the series has garnered. The show’s production company, Shaftesbury, also welcomed his return, with chairman and CEO Christina Jennings expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming season.
The new season’s production is set to commence in June in St. John’s, N.L., with a plotline teasing Charlie’s unexpected return to St. John’s from South America. Meanwhile, Luke Roberts will continue to play the character of Det. Mark Hudson on the show.
