QEC Restores Power in Downtown Iqaluit

Must read

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) successfully reestablished power in downtown Iqaluit by fixing a damaged pole, according to a recent announcement on their official Facebook page around 1 p.m. on Saturday. The company had temporarily cut off power in the downtown area earlier that morning as a precautionary measure while their crews addressed a broken power pole near Arctic College.

In their social media update, QEC advised the public to steer clear of the affected vicinity during the repair work. They anticipated the restoration of power by 1 p.m. as their teams focused on the downtown power lines. The power outage impacted regions around NorthMart, Inuksuk High School, Arctic Ventures, the museum, and Four Corners, as indicated on a map shared by QEC on Facebook.

A social media post from NorthMart informed customers that the store’s opening would be delayed until power was fully reinstated, while Arctic Ventures remained unaffected by the outage. The City of Iqaluit also announced on social media that the Aquatic Centre would remain closed until power services were back to normal.

The circumstances surrounding the broken power pole have not been officially disclosed by QEC yet. CBC News reached out to QEC and the Iqaluit RCMP for further details regarding the incident.
