“Sandy Brondello Set to Lead Toronto Tempo After Stint with New York Liberty”

Must read

Sandy Brondello is on the brink of becoming the inaugural head coach of the Toronto Tempo, with her tenure at the New York Liberty coming to an end as her contract was not renewed following the latest season, despite leading the team to their first WNBA title in 2024. The Liberty faced a challenging season marred by injuries, resulting in an early exit from the playoffs.

Brondello, a seasoned coach, was also under consideration for the head coach position with the Dallas Wings, while the Seattle Storm is also in search of a new head coach.

Reported first by The Next website, Brondello achieved a notable record of 107-53 during her four seasons with the New York team, marking the highest number of wins in the franchise’s history. Despite a strong start with nine consecutive victories, the Liberty’s performance took a downturn over the subsequent months due to the impact of injuries.

Prior to her stint with New York, Brondello steered the Phoenix Mercury to a championship title during her eight-year tenure with the team. Her success with the Mercury led to her recruitment by the Liberty in 2022 after guiding the Mercury to the WNBA Finals in 2021.

After experiencing a defeat in the 2023 finals against Las Vegas, New York triumphed in the championship last season in a thrilling Game 5 overtime win over Minnesota. The Toronto Tempo are set to commence their play in the upcoming season under Brondello’s guidance.
