Ottawa Senators’ team captain, Brady Tkachuk, is set to miss six to eight weeks following a surgical procedure on his right thumb, as announced by the NHL franchise on Thursday. The decision for surgery came after Tkachuk sought a second opinion, a process confirmed by team owner Michael Andlauer in New York on Wednesday.
Tkachuk sustained the injury during a game against the Nashville Predators when he was forcefully checked into the boards by Roman Josi just five minutes into the match. Despite initially staying in the game, the 26-year-old American forward eventually exited midway through the third period.
The timing of the surgery aims to facilitate Tkachuk’s return by late November or early December, well in advance of the Milan-Cortina Olympics in February. Tkachuk, along with his injured brother Matthew from the Florida Panthers, has already been selected to represent the United States in the upcoming Olympics, with Matthew expected to recover by December.
