Sarah McLachlan, folk singer Allison Russell, and up-and-coming country artist Cameron Whitcomb are set to take the stage at the 55th Juno Awards in Hamilton on March 29. McLachlan and Russell will collaborate in a special performance honoring Joni Mitchell, who is receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award this year. The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences highlighted Mitchell’s significant impact on global music and her innovative approach to songwriting.
As a five-time Juno winner, Mitchell has earned recognition, including the best vocal jazz album award for her 2001 release “Both Sides Now.” McLachlan and Russell, both former members of the “Joni Jam” live band assembled by Brandi Carlile, have deep connections to Mitchell’s work. Russell showcased her rendition of “Both Sides, Now” at the 2025 SOCAN Awards, where Mitchell was honored with the Global Impact Award. McLachlan has frequently performed Mitchell’s songs, notably including “River” on her 2006 album “Wintersong.”
Making his Juno debut this year, Cameron Whitcomb from Nanaimo, B.C., has garnered five nominations, trailing behind Tate McRae and Justin Bieber. Whitcomb will deliver a performance featuring tracks from his nominated album, “The Hard Way.” His journey began after appearing on “American Idol” in 2022, with his authentic and raw take on country music resonating with fans drawn to his personal storytelling.
The trio of McLachlan, Russell, and Whitcomb will join previously announced performers such as the Beaches, Arkells, William Prince, and Daniel Caesar at the Juno Awards. Additionally, the Juno Week Kickoff concert lineup on March 26 will include James Barker Band, Robyn Ottolini, Sacha, Kalsey Kulyk, and the Redhill Valleys. Junofest, a two-night concert series presented by CBC on March 27 and 28, will feature nearly 70 artists across various venues in Hamilton, including Great Lake Swimmers, Katie Tupper, Sebastian Gaskin, and Terra Lightfoot.
On March 28, an honoring ceremony will pay tribute to Indigenous music pioneers with performances by Little Creek Singers, Siibii, and YB Nakota. The upcoming Juno Awards promise a diverse and vibrant celebration of Canadian music talent.
