“Artemis II Moon Mission Set to Launch April 1”

Must read

NASA has confirmed that the Artemis II mission, which aims to take four astronauts around the moon, is set to launch as early as April 1 after facing several delays. During a press conference, Lori Glaze, acting associate administrator for the Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate, stated that all teams involved have given the green light for the mission pending the completion of some final tasks.

Emphasizing that Artemis II is a test flight with inherent risks, Glaze mentioned that the team and equipment are prepared for the mission. The rollout to the launch pad is planned for the following week. The press conference highlighted NASA’s flight readiness review, a crucial step before launch.

Additionally, a new launch window date of April 2 has been added, allowing for the Artemis II mission to take place between April 1 and April 6. The mission will see Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen join NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch on a trajectory around the moon.

The astronauts are scheduled to enter quarantine on March 18 before heading to the Kennedy Space Center on March 27. NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) had previously encountered delays due to hydrogen leaks during wet dress rehearsals. These issues have since been addressed, with new batteries installed and systems retested to ensure readiness for launch.

In a recent development, NASA administrator Jared Isaacman announced changes to the Artemis program, with Artemis III now planned as a test mission to dock with lunar landers developed in partnership with SpaceX and Blue Origin, foregoing a lunar landing objective.
