“Toronto Campaign Waives Fees to Promote Big Dog Adoptions”

Must read

Big dogs, known for their loyalty and affectionate nature, are often overlooked in pet adoption, as stated by Toronto Animal Services. In an effort to change perceptions about large dogs, the organization has partnered with NutriCanine, a fresh dog food company based in Toronto, to launch their second annual campaign from March 23 to April 23. The goal is to help big dogs in the Greater Toronto Area find loving homes.

Toronto Animal Services has announced that all adoption fees for large dogs and large-breed puppies in Toronto will be waived during this campaign period to encourage more families to consider adopting bigger dogs. The definition of “large” includes dogs weighing over 50 pounds or puppies expected to reach that weight.

Elana Trainoff, partnerships manager at Toronto Animal Services, emphasized that while some people may feel intimidated by the idea of owning a large dog due to concerns about space and exercise needs, big dogs offer immense love and companionship. Trainoff highlighted the significant wait times large dogs experience in shelters, stressing that they deserve loving homes like any other animal.

Last year, the campaign led to 58 adoptions of big dogs. Trainoff pointed out that many large dogs make excellent companions in various living environments, with different personalities and needs. She encouraged potential adopters to visit the city’s webpage to view available dogs, contact the shelter where their desired dog is located, schedule a visit with family members and existing pets, and determine the best match.

The adoption process for big dogs remains unchanged, and Toronto Animal Services aims to facilitate successful adoptions by connecting these loving animals with caring families.
