Anil Mohabir expressed his astonishment at the recent collaboration with Drake to unveil the Toronto rapper’s latest music. Mohabir assisted Drake in projecting an icy blue wave of light onto the CN Tower, creating a real-time 3D animation against the iconic Toronto landmark. This striking visual display, along with a fireworks show illuminating downtown Toronto’s waterfront, marked a livestream event that revealed a triple-album drop at midnight: the highly anticipated “Iceman,” alongside surprise releases “Habibti” and “Maid of Honour.”
The ambitious project, orchestrated by Mohabir’s Studio AM, involved intricate coordination with various teams, including the CN Tower’s lighting crews, Transport Canada, and the City of Toronto. Mohabir managed a team of around 300 individuals who contributed to the project. The visually stunning display was brought to life using 75 projectors from Canada and abroad, strategically positioned across three locations, including the roof of CBC’s Toronto Broadcast Centre.
The sheer scale of the equipment used was impressive, with each projector averaging $200,000 and individual lenses ranging from $25,000 to over $100,000. The total value of the equipment exceeded $15 million. When the projection was activated, Mohabir described the reaction as one of awe and surprise among onlookers.
Prior to the CN Tower spectacle, Mohabir orchestrated another buzz-building event, a livestream where Drake rode through the city in an “Iceman”-branded truck. Drake’s promotional efforts leading up to the album release have been headline-grabbing, including leaving a massive ice-block installation in a downtown parking lot, setting off a filmed explosion at Downsview Park, and transforming his courtside seats at the Toronto Raptors’ home stadium into ice.
Mohabir emphasized Drake’s commitment to showcasing Canadian creatives and elevating the city’s profile, a sentiment he deeply appreciates as a native of Regent Park. He highlighted the opportunity provided by Drake to bring ambitious ideas to fruition at a high level, underscoring the collaborative spirit of Toronto’s creative community.
The collaboration between Anil Mohabir and Drake has not only captivated audiences but also exemplified the power of creativity and innovation in the music industry.
