A California court has rejected rapper Tory Lanez’s appeal of his guilty verdict for shooting at Megan Thee Stallion. The California 2nd District Court of Appeal upheld the 32-year-old Canadian’s conviction on three felony charges without providing an explanation. In December 2022, Lanez was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and reckless discharge of a firearm.
During the trial, Megan testified that Lanez shot at her feet after leaving a party at Kylie Jenner’s residence in July 2020. She stated that Lanez demanded she dance as she walked away from the vehicle they were in with two others. Megan had to undergo surgery to remove bullet fragments from both feet, and she publicly identified Lanez as the shooter months after the incident.
Lanez, also known as Daystar Peterson, has not commented on the recent ruling through his attorneys. They have the option to appeal to the California Supreme Court. Megan’s representative did not respond to requests for comments either.
Currently serving a 10-year sentence at the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo, Lanez was transferred there after being attacked by another inmate at California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. Lanez started his music career in 2009 with mixtapes and later achieved success with major label albums that reached the top 10 on Billboard’s charts.
