The United States secured a 3-0 win over Canada in the International Para Hockey Cup final in Ostrava, Czech Republic, capturing their fourth championship title. Declan Farmer was instrumental for the U.S. team, scoring a power-play goal in the second period and sealing the victory with an empty-net goal in the final minute.
American head coach David Hoff commended his team’s performance, emphasizing the solid effort displayed throughout the game. Malik Jones initiated the scoring with a short-handed goal in the first period, intercepting a pass and beating Canadian goalie Corbin Watson. Farmer added another goal in the second period with a skillful maneuver near the crease.
Goalkeeper Griffin LaMarre made 11 saves to secure a shutout at Ostravar Arena. The U.S. team dominated the second period with a 9-0 shot advantage and outshot Canada 23-11 overall. They capitalized on one of their power-play opportunities, while Canada failed to convert on all five of their chances.
The United States has now clinched all four IPH Cup championships since the tournament’s inception in 2022. Canada, who defeated Italy 9-1 to reach the final, will host the Para Hockey Cup in Dawson Creek, B.C. before the Milan-Cortina Paralympics in March. Despite the loss, Canadian forward Greg Westlake expressed optimism about the team’s progress and looks forward to showcasing their skills on home soil in the upcoming tournament.
