Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited the set of the TV show “Son of a Critch” with his youngest son, who is a big fan of the series just like his father. The 12-year-old Hadrien Trudeau will make a cameo appearance in Season 5 of the CBC comedy when it premieres in the fall.
Show creator Mark Critch revealed that Hadrien will be seen as an extra in a scene where classmates of the main character discover their roles in a school play. Although Justin Trudeau also visited the set, he did not make an appearance in any scenes, with Critch humorously remarking that they already had a drama teacher on set.
Trudeau and his son are avid followers of the show, and Critch extended an invitation for them to visit the set in Newfoundland. During their two-day visit to St. John’s, they met the cast and crew, and Trudeau had the opportunity to watch his son on the production monitors.
Hadrien impressed actor Malcolm McDowell, who plays Pops on the show, with his knowledge of trivia related to the character’s teacup description. British actor Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who portrays a young Mark Critch, mentioned that Hadrien engaged in discussions with him about acting decisions, blocking, and background tips.
The interaction between Trudeau, his son, and the cast on set revealed their enthusiasm for the show. Critch, who has previously collaborated with Trudeau on “This Hour Has 22 Minutes,” shared that he discovered their shared love for “Son of a Critch” during a book launch event in Ottawa last year.
Trudeau, who has three children including Xavier (Xav) and Ella-Grace, saw his eldest son Xav venture into a music career in 2025 with the release of his first R&B song. The track featured his sister providing background vocals.
The presence of Trudeau and his son on the set of “Son of a Critch” created excitement among the cast and crew, showcasing the show’s appeal to a wide audience.
