The London Sports Hall of Fame is set to introduce a new group of six members on Thursday, November 6, at the Hellenic Community Centre. Organizers highlight that this class collectively boasts over 20 gold medals or world titles on the global stage, a remarkable achievement for the community’s size. Jay Minielly, the Hall of Fame committee chair, expresses confidence that future classes will continue this success.
The inductees for this year include renowned individuals such as Jeff Carter, an NHL all-star and Olympic gold medalist; Maggie Mac Neil, an Olympic and world champion swimmer; Jennifer Ogg, a world champion boxer; Darda Sales, a multi-sport Paralympic champion; David Willsie, a five-time Paralympian and longtime captain of Canada’s wheelchair rugby team; and Murray Young, a distinguished rugby organizer in Ontario.
Additionally, the Hall will recognize the city’s 2025 Spirit of Sport award recipients during the ceremony.
Londoner David Willsie shares his surprise at being called to the Hall of Fame, mentioning the personal touch of the notification from his high school hockey coach, Tim Moore. Willsie recounts his journey from a hockey accident in 1995 that left him paralyzed, leading him to discover wheelchair rugby and eventually represent Team Canada, achieving notable success on the global stage.
For multi-sport Paralympian Darda Sales, the Hall of Fame induction comes as a delightful surprise, describing it as a cherry on top of her illustrious career. Sales, who excelled in swimming and wheelchair basketball, emphasizes her dedication to hard work and overcoming challenges throughout her sporting endeavors.
World champion boxer Jennifer Ogg expresses gratitude for the recognition from her hometown of London, highlighting the significance of the induction in honoring her coaches, family, and the memorable moments from her boxing career.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, November 6, 2025, with a meet-and-greet at 5:00 p.m. followed by the formal program at 6:00 p.m. at the Hellenic Community Centre on Southdale Road.
