AFC Toronto’s Marko Milanovic has been awarded the Coach of the Year title in the Northern Super League for his remarkable leadership during the league’s debut season. Milanovic guided Toronto to the top spot in the standings with an impressive 16-6-3 record, accumulating 51 points. This placed Toronto 12 points ahead of their closest rivals, Ottawa Rapid and Vancouver Rise, who finished with 39 points each.
The Coach of the Year accolade was determined through a vote among the six NSL coaches, with a rule prohibiting self-voting. The voting procedure mirrored that of the players’ annual awards, where players cast votes for their fellow athletes.
Toronto dominated the six-team league in goal scoring, netting a total of 42 goals and securing the second spot in goals allowed, trailing only Montreal in this category.
Toronto is set to kick off the playoffs against Montreal this Saturday in the first leg of the semifinals, while Vancouver will host Ottawa on Tuesday.
Before his tenure at Toronto, Milanovic spent over ten years coaching North Toronto Soccer, including a successful stint leading the team in League1 Ontario. Additionally, he served as an assistant coach at Toronto Metropolitan University.
