A series of special events are set to take place nationwide in honor of the life and contributions of Graham Greene, a revered Oneida actor from Six Nations of the Grand River in southern Ontario who passed away at the age of 73 last fall. These events coincide with National Canadian Film Day on April 15, a CBC co-sponsored initiative celebrating Canadian cinema through screenings across the country.
As part of this year’s commemorations, various film screenings will pay tribute to Greene’s legacy, including a presentation of his film “Clearcut” (1991) at The Woodland Cultural Centre in Brantford, Ont. The screening, scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. on April 15, will be attended by members of Greene’s family and the Six Nations community. Additionally, the event will feature the documentary “Graham Greene: I’m Just Me” by Tara Johns.
Screenings of “Clearcut” and Greene’s acclaimed film “Seeds” will also be held in Toronto, Ottawa, and Halifax, highlighting his extensive career that spanned nearly five decades across stage and screen, including major motion pictures and television productions.
Throughout his illustrious career, Greene received accolades such as the Order of Canada membership, an Academy Award nomination for his role in “Dances with Wolves,” the Earle Grey lifetime achievement award for television acting (Canadian Screen Award) in 2004, and the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award in 2025 for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.
