Prince Edward Island is set to host its largest television production ever this summer with a $5 million investment from the province in the form of a rebate. The investment will bring to life Canadian author Carley Fortune’s bestselling romance novel, “This Summer Will Be Different,” in a 10-episode series to be filmed in P.E.I. and Toronto.
Netflix Canada’s director of production management, Robin Neinstein, expressed the significance of filming in P.E.I., emphasizing that the Island plays a crucial role in the story as a vibrant character. The production is expected to create 75 job opportunities, including roles such as production assistants, painters, and caterers.
Rob Riselli, the executive director of Film P.E.I., highlighted the opportunity to showcase the beauty of the Island through this production, potentially attracting more projects to the region. Premier Rob Lantz hailed the announcement as a boost to Prince Edward Island’s arts and culture sector and an opportunity to showcase the province globally.
Minister of Economic Development Jenn Redmond viewed the filming as an investment in P.E.I.’s arts and culture industry, projecting an enhanced global presence for the province in the film industry. Despite initial concerns raised by the Opposition, Premier Lantz confirmed the production would proceed as planned, expressing excitement for the upcoming project.
The exact release date for the series on Netflix’s platform remains undisclosed.
