Justin Timberlake faced difficulties while undergoing sobriety tests during a traffic stop in the Hamptons in 2024. Video footage revealed his struggles with walking in a straight line and balancing on one leg as police suspected him of driving under the influence.
In the video, which spans about eight hours, Timberlake was initially stopped by Sag Harbor police for running a stop sign, swerving out of his lane, and emitting an alcohol smell from his BMW in June of that year. The singer mentioned to officers that he had consumed one martini and was following friends in the upscale beach town of the Hamptons, located 160 kilometers east of New York City.
During the encounter, Timberlake identified himself as being on a world tour when questioned by the officers. Despite his attempts to explain his situation, he struggled with the sobriety tests and expressed nervousness to the officers.
Following his arrest, Timberlake pleaded guilty to a reduced charge. The video release by Sag Harbor police, following a legal process, came after Timberlake’s lawyers initially tried to prevent its disclosure, citing concerns about privacy and reputation damage. Ultimately, Timberlake agreed to the footage’s release, leading to the public unveiling of the events surrounding his impaired driving incident.
As part of his legal resolution, Timberlake also delivered a public safety message against impaired driving, emphasizing the dangers of driving after consuming alcohol. He received a fine, community service hours, and a temporary suspension of his driver’s license as part of his plea deal in September 2024.
