Will Dandjinou showcased an outstanding performance on Sunday, securing three speed skating medals to bring his two-day total to five and leading the Canadian team at the Short Track World Tour event in Montreal.
Dandjinou, hailing from Sherbrooke, Quebec, started the day by clinching gold in the 2,000-metre mixed relay race alongside Danaé Blais, Courtney Sarault, and Félix Roussel. They triumphed with a time of 2:37.599, surpassing South Korea and Poland at Maurice Richard Arena.
Later in the men’s 1,000 meters, Dandjinou grabbed first place with a time of 1:25.417, closely followed by Steven Dubois from Laval, Quebec. The bronze went to Hwang Daeheon of South Korea.
In the final event, Dandjinou contributed to Canada’s victory in the men’s 5,000 relay with Maxime Laoun, Dubois, and Roussel, finishing in 6:57.743 ahead of the Netherlands and Italy.
Canada concluded the weekend with a total of 10 medals and a remarkable 17 medals during their two-week homestand, including 10 gold, three silver, and four bronze. The Canadian team currently leads the Team Crystal Globe standings with 3,246 points, well ahead of the Korean White Tigers with 2,547 points.
Dandjinou and Sarault hold significant leads in their respective Crystal Globe standings with 442 and 490 points.
On Saturday, Dandjinou excelled in the men’s 500 and 1,500 events, while Sarault secured two medals.
Looking ahead, Gdansk, Poland, will host the next stop on November 20-23, followed by Dordrecht, Netherlands. The world championships are scheduled to take place in Montreal in March, shortly after the Olympics. Viewers can find the live streaming schedule for the upcoming events.
