Canadian hockey-themed series, “Heated Rivalry,” has been honored with a prestigious Peabody Award. The show, a collaboration between Crave, Bell Media, and HBO Max, gained unexpected popularity following its launch in November 2025. It was selected as one of the 11 outstanding television programs in the entertainment category by the Peabody Awards jurors. Described as a show that delves into intricate themes of sexuality and emotional connections, “Heated Rivalry” has been lauded for its positive impact on viewers and its portrayal of healthy masculinity.

The series, helmed by Montreal’s Jacob Tierney and inspired by novels from Halifax’s Rachel Reid, narrates a clandestine romantic relationship between fictional professional hockey players, Shane Hollander (portrayed by Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (played by Connor Storrie). Tierney, in conjunction with the official Instagram account of the show, expressed gratitude for the accolade, emphasizing the complexities and nuances of the story told in “Heated Rivalry.”

Author Rachel Reid also shared her pride in the show’s success, adding an emoji expressing joy. The Directors Guild of Canada in Ontario joined in the celebration, offering their congratulations to the dedicated team that brought the series to life. The 86th Annual Peabody Awards ceremony, where the winners will be recognized, is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on May 31st.
