“London NGO Replants Trees After Vandalism”

Must read

A non-governmental organization in London is replacing young trees after 120 newly planted saplings were torn out of the ground in the previous month. The Sisters of the Precious Blood Monastery, located near Brescia College, have provided space on their property for ReForest London to accommodate the 90 surviving saplings following the act of vandalism.

Expressing dismay at the destruction of the trees, Sister Linda highlighted the symbolic significance of the act for global well-being rather than personal gain. The initial tree planting by ReForest London took place at the end of September on a grassy hillside in Arthur Ford Park. However, within three days, all 120 saplings were uprooted and left in a pile nearby.

In response to the incident, the Sisters extended an offer to ReForest London, offering space on their grounds for replanting the trees. The organization had been awaiting guidance on the next steps before the Sisters’ intervention. Executive Director Rodger Moran expressed gratitude for the Sisters’ support and generosity over the years.

ReForest London has a history of collaboration with the monastery, including the recent establishment of a “mini forest” on the premises. The shared commitment to environmental conservation has strengthened the bond between the two organizations. The envisioned outcome of the tree growth is a serene and rejuvenating space, open not only to the monastery community but also to others in the vicinity.

Moran hopes that the new location will serve as a peaceful retreat for local residents and Western University students, offering a respite from their busy lives. Despite the setback caused by the vandalism, the organization remains undeterred and optimistic, buoyed by the overwhelming support received from sponsors, individuals, and the community at large.

The incident has galvanized a wave of community engagement, with an increasing number of people expressing interest in volunteering and supporting ReForest London’s reforestation efforts. The replanting event is scheduled for Wednesday evening behind the monastery, welcoming anyone interested in participating to register online for the initiative.
