Netflix Canada has revealed plans to adapt another one of Carley Fortune’s popular romance novels into a 10-episode series. The series will be based on the Canadian author’s third book, “This Summer Will Be Different.” The story follows Lucy during a summer on Prince Edward Island where she unexpectedly encounters Felix, her best friend Bridget’s younger brother, leading to a complex romantic entanglement. Despite her efforts to keep her distance, Lucy finds herself drawn to Felix, especially when Bridget faces a crisis close to her wedding. The TV adaptation will be filmed in Toronto and on Prince Edward Island to capture the essence of the book’s settings.
Carley Fortune, a writer and journalist based in Toronto, expressed her excitement about bringing the story to life on screen, inspired by her own experiences on Prince Edward Island. Her previous works include “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” and “Meet Me at the Lake,” with her upcoming novel, “Our Perfect Storm,” set to be published soon.
“Every Summer After” is currently being produced as a television series called “Every Year After” on Amazon Prime Video, while “Meet Me At the Lake” was optioned for a film adaptation by Netflix and Archewell Productions in 2023. Additionally, “Meet Me At the Lake” made history as the first romance title to be considered for Canada Reads, championed in 2024 by Mirian Njoh.
