Windsor police are currently conducting an investigation following an incident where a pedestrian was struck by two vehicles on Sunday evening in the western part of the city. The collision on Sandwich Street was responded to by officers shortly after 8 p.m., as reported by the police department. The pedestrian, who was crossing the street not at a designated crossing area, was hit by an approaching vehicle, according to the initial findings of the police investigation.
As a result of the collision, the pedestrian was thrown into the opposite lane and subsequently hit by a second vehicle, the police stated in a press release issued on Monday. The victim, a 62-year-old man, sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Both drivers involved in the incident remained at the scene, according to law enforcement officials. Although Sandwich Street has been reopened, it was closed for several hours between Mill Street and Detroit Street on Sunday night for investigative purposes.
