Russell Brand, the British comedian, entered a plea of not guilty to new charges of rape and sexual assault during his appearance at Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday. These fresh accusations, dating back to 2009, add to the existing charges he is facing involving four women. In April, Brand, aged 50, was charged with multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault, stemming from incidents between 1999 and 2005 in locations including Bournemouth and London.
Brand has consistently denied all allegations against him and previously pleaded not guilty to the initial charges during a court appearance in London earlier this year. A trial is set for June with an anticipated duration of four to five weeks. A forthcoming hearing will determine whether the new allegations will be consolidated with the existing case. Brand’s legal representative cited the need for additional time to address these latest offenses.
Appearing at court on Tuesday sporting a white cowboy hat and sunglasses, Brand, who publicly declared his Christian faith in 2024, expressed feeling “blessed” when asked about his emotions. The once-prominent figure on British television in the 2000s, recognized for his flamboyant persona and work as a BBC radio presenter, has retreated from mainstream media in recent years. Despite his past struggles with substance abuse, Brand has transitioned to online platforms, where he shares content blending wellness advice, conspiracy theories, and discussions on his religious beliefs.
