Tegan Quin of Tegan and Sara Co-Writes Marvel Comic

Must read

Tegan Quin, part of the pop-indie duo Tegan and Sara, has contributed as a writer to the Marvel Comics pride special one-shot, “Wiccan & Hulkling: Raid of Ultron #1,” set to be released on May 27. This comic showcases the beloved gay couple Wiccan and Hulkling along with their families, emphasizing the significance of community and relationships during challenging times. The storyline penned by Quin and illustrated by Luciano Vecchio revolves around the twins Wiccan and Speed, who join forces to combat Ultron while navigating their distinct paths as siblings.

Expressing her excitement, Quin mentioned, “As a twin myself, I truly can’t think of two characters in the Marvel Universe I would have been more excited to write than Wiccan and Speed.” She added, “Making my Marvel debut with this story isn’t just a thrill, it feels downright magical.” Quin also drew parallels between Ultron and certain individuals encountered in the music industry, finding solace in depicting the defeat of Ultron in the narrative.

Apart from Quin, the comic will feature contributions from writers Wyatt Kennedy, Josh Trujillo, and Zoe Tunnell, as well as artists Rachael Stott, Bradley Clayton, and Stephen Byrne. Additionally, Quin, who is based in Vancouver, is advocating for Loghan Paylor’s novel “The Cure for Drowning” on Canada Reads 2026.

Canada Reads is an event where five Canadian celebrities select one book that they believe the entire country should read. The contenders engage in debates over four days, eliminating one book daily until a winner is chosen. This year’s edition is scheduled from April 13 to 16.

Throughout her career, Quin and her sister have launched ten studio albums featuring popular tracks like “Closer,” “Where Does The Good Go,” and “Walking with A Ghost.” Their musical endeavors have garnered over a million record sales and earned them accolades such as Juno and GLAAD awards, a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award, as well as nominations for the Polaris Music Prize and the Grammy Awards.

In 2019, the duo expanded their writing ventures from songs to books by releasing their joint memoir, “High School,” and the middle-grade graphic novel series “Tegan & Sara: Junior High,” illustrated by Tillie Walden. Furthermore, they established the Tegan and Sara Foundation to provide support and investments in 2SLGBTQ+ communities, leading to them receiving the Humanitarian Award at the 2024 Junos.
