Instead, he is considering delivering a speech at the event. Trump shared on the social media platform Truth Social that he might opt for a speech and rally, asserting that he is the top attraction globally, drawing larger audiences than Elvis Presley did in his prime, and all without needing a guitar.
This decision comes after Bret Michaels, the lead singer of the rock band Poison, became the fifth artist to withdraw from the Freedom 250 concerts scheduled from June 25 to July 10 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The Freedom 250 event, described on its website as a celebration of the American spirit, has faced criticism for allegedly glorifying Trump through various initiatives, including featuring his face on commemorative coins, putting his signature on bills, and designing a special passport with his image.
In addition to Michaels, other musicians who have backed out of the anniversary festivities include country singer Martina McBride and the funk and soul group, the Commodores. This situation has raised questions about the nature and focus of the 250th anniversary celebrations in the U.S., with some speculating on whether the event is more about Trump than the nation’s independence.
