A new contender in the world of hockey dramas has emerged to challenge the popular show “Heated Rivalry.” This fresh competitor, titled “Off Campus,” features a Canadian touch both on and off the screen.
Based on the bestselling novels by Toronto author Elle Kennedy, “Off Campus” centers around the relationship between music student Hannah Wells and hockey star Garrett Graham at a university setting. The series, currently topping the charts on Amazon Prime Video in Canada, showcases Canadian talent in front of the camera, behind the scenes, and in its choice of filming locations and music.
Elle Kennedy, the creator of the “Off Campus” book series, hails from Toronto and also serves as a producer for the TV adaptation. With a passion for writing since her teenage years, Kennedy holds a degree in English and has authored close to 50 contemporary novels.
The TV series was predominantly filmed in Vancouver, standing in for the fictional Briar University in Boston. Various iconic locations at the University of British Columbia were utilized for key scenes, including the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre and the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.
The inclusion of The Beaches’ song “Edge of the Earth” in an episode of “Off Campus” led to a significant spike in the band’s streaming numbers. The Toronto band experienced an 888% increase in streams across platforms following its feature in the show.
Canadian talents shine on screen in “Off Campus,” with actors like Stephen Kalyn, Dylan Kingwell, Khobe Clarke, Julia Sarah Stone, Karis Cameron, Chelah Horsdal, Jennifer Spence, and Chad Willett portraying various characters in the series. Behind the scenes, executive producer Leanna Billings from Fredericton, co-executive producer Ian Deitchman from Montreal, and director Dawn Wilkinson contribute to the show’s success.
